Ram comprehensively redesigned the big truck's ladder frame with high-strength 50 KSI steel, including eight separate cross-members, hydro-formed main rails and fully boxed rear rails.

The suspension was engineered to provide greater roll stiffness for more confident, planted handling in turns. The basic layout continues to be an independent front suspension with coil springs and a Hotchkiss rear suspension with a rugged live rear axle. Further improving driving dynamics is a new reciprocating ball steering system that provides better on-center feel.

The 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 engine brings the Chassis Cab to the head of the class with a wide array of Best-in-Class offerings like “15,000 Mile Oil Change Intervals” or “Smart Diesel Exhaust Brake”.

Built into every 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel engine is a Class-Exclusive Cummins Smart Diesel Exhaust Brake system to help your rotors and brake pads last longer. Similar to a standard speed control, the Cummins Smart Diesel Exhaust Brake system senses when you're traveling downhill with a heavy load and gently engages itself to maintain a steady speed, helping your four-wheel disc antilock brake system last longer.

The available AISIN AS69RC six-speed automatic transmission is an electronically controlled automatic transmission designed to handle higher engine output and increase vehicle weight ratings.

The 5500 Regular Cabs can be ordered in 144.5, 168.5, 192.5 and 204.5 inch wheelbases.
