Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district shows off electric buses

Some students in Nanaimo will be riding to school on new electric buses by the end of this school year. The B.C. government previously committed to funding the pilot project, and on Thursday morning, May 6, Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district showed off the electric vehicles at its transportation facility. The district is estimating the buses will be on the road by May 25, servicing the Lantzville/north Nanaimo area and the Ladysmith/École North Oyster area. The two new 76-passenger Type C electrical buses, supplied by Western Canada Bus, come with a price tag of $350,000 each. East Kootenay school districts add electric buses to fleets

School bus seatbelt pilot launching in two B.C. school districts

Transport Canada is rolling out a new seatbelt pilot project aboard school buses in two B.C. school districts, starting this year.The federal government is launching the first phase of the pilot project immediately in the Fraser-Cascade school district in the province’s Lower Mainland. B.C.'s first electric school buses roll out on Vancouver Island

The Sooke School District (SD62) is the first jurisdiction in B.C. to introduce electric school buses to its fleet.The province says that the fully electric buses are better for the environment and are smoother and quieter than current diesel buses.Each electric bus is expected to remove about 17 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually compared to diesel buses, and cost less to maintain over time, according to the province.SD62's first electric bus entered service this week, with another expected to arrive in roughly two weeks."By shifting gears from diesel to electric school buses,...
